n this program, students will learn to construct a series of smart bots using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 platform including a gripper for some heavy-duty lifting, a self-balancing robot, a color sorting robot, and a robot arm gripper.

The Program is supported by a dedicated team of technologically savvy professional trainers and delivered online and at multiple locations in the northern and southern York region, including Job Skills, Welcome Centre and community partner locations.

Computer equipment is provided during the program.

IDEA LAB KIDS:CODING:INTRO TO SCRATCH JR. & TYNKER Children

Scratch Jr. is an introductory programming language that enables young children to create their own interactive stories and games. In the first half of this course, children will snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, sing, and more. Students will uncover the multiple functions of Scratch Jr. through various activities. In the second half of this course, students will explore Tynker. Tynker is an educational programming platform aimed at teaching kids how to make games and programs using block-based coding. Throughout a variety of activities, students will learn the ins and out of game and app development

This program will introduce students to basic programming concepts, such as algorithms, syntax, loops, and variables, through the engaging and familiar experience of a video game using python language. In each level, players use computational thinking and computer programming to navigate the hero to the goal without running into spikes or being spotted by ogres.
